“The key to finding happiness in this life is realizing that the only way to overcome is to transcend; to find happiness in the simple pleasures, to master the art of just being.”― Brianna Wiest
I bought into the hype. Yup, about two weeks ago, I started my list of ways that I can make “2024 my best year yet!”
I am not sure how the “new year, new you” trend started but it got me thinking. What’s wrong with 2023 me? 🤷🏻♀️
What’s wrong with the 2023 version of you? Better yet, how much better is the 2023 version of you compared to the 2022 version of you?
In 2023, did you meet anyone new? Great! I am sure, you are better for it.
In 2023, did you learn one new movement? Great! I am sure you are better for it.
Did you attempt to eat slightly better? Whether you did or didn’t, you are better for it. Sometimes we grow, and sometimes we learn.
Did you read one article and learn something new? Something about health? About faith? About relationships? About growth? Great! You are better for it. Yes, knowledge is power.
Ok, you get the point.
I would be lying if I didn’t admit, that I am selfishly writing this more to convince myself than I am to convince you.
Yup, I am a “chronic pursuer of self-improvement”. I have a (sometimes) pathologic desire for a “better version of myself”. And given that the “self-improvement industry” is a $43 billion industry, I think it is safe to say, I am not alone.
So this new year, I say we flip the script……
“Let’s master the art of just being”
Maybe this IS the “new you”, that WILL unlock the best version of you.
The you that can attack life’s challenges with a little bit of playfulness knowing that the best version of you can be fully realized by first accepting the current version of you.
Oh, and of course, that version of you will get to work on something that will make the future you proud 😊
“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them—that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” —Lao Tzu
