I once heard someone say…….. the thoughts that got you here will keep you here. And I couldn’t agree more.
If you want to stay where you are, keep thinking the way you did yesterday.
If you want to keep making progress in your rehab (and in life) I recommend you do a “software update” daily.
How are you different today than you were yesterday? If you did something new yesterday, how have your perceptions about yourself and your capabilities been “updated”?
If you were provided with new information yesterday (re: health, nutrition, “mobility”,…etc.), how have your eating/exercising/therapy behaviors been updated?
If you learned new information about the economy, how have your spending/saving/investing behaviors been “updated”?
If you learned new information about a person, how have you “updated” that relationship?
If you want the hard truth, if you aren’t making progress in your rehab, with your health, in your relationships and in life, it isn’t because you are missing out on some 12 step guide on the internet.
After 22 years of working with people with all kinds of brain injuries, the number one factor that separates the “stagnant” from the “achievers” is NOT something “visible”. It is the invisible thoughts, beliefs, and faith.
It is NOT the “fruit”, but the “root”.
When you are rooted in fertile soil, nothing can take you down.
In fact, when the wind comes (and it will come), the pressure from the wind makes the tree stronger. When the rain comes (and it will come), it is the soil that is nourished and gives life to the tree to bear more fruit.
Life is full of challenges. No one is exempt. The question is not if, but when. When that season comes (or has come), where are you planted? Who is your source? Where do you find your Hope? If you are looking for something you can see, you might be missing the mark.
Love this.
